Febuary Wrap Up

OK, so it’s halfway though March already, but nothing was said about the month of February on our blog so it was time to say something.

February was a bit uneventful. Tim interviewed for a few jobs, Teresa spent time with her Grandma and Sister, and everything is still in a holding pattern until Tim finds a new job.

Stay tuned for more stimulating and exciting news from the Davis Family, as things did happen to us in the month of March.

January Wrap Up

Well, the first month of the New Year has come and gone. We are settling into our new home, and getting to know our surroundings better. It’s nice to finally have all the boxes we brought with us from California unpacked and put away. This is a first for us since we’ve never had the room to completely unpack our possessions when we’ve lived in apartments. Now that we have a house, we have the room to unpack.

The weather has not been as cold as we expected. We had visions of snow flurries and Tim bundling up shovel snow from the drive way, but what little snow we did get was hardly more then a light dusting. After hearing some of the stories from our family and friends about the snow that hit California this year, it is nice to know we left before we had to drive in those conditions to get to our new home. Over all, living so close to a lake as big as Lake Norman, the weather is pretty mild. The worst we had was a high of 29 with low of 16, but for the most part the temperature has been in the mid 20’s in the morning to about the low 60’s by noon. Perfect sweater weather.

Teresa has done a fantastic job making our little house feel like home. She decorated our kitchen with the grapes and fruit we used at our wedding, as well as some gifts and artwork we have accumulated over the years but never had a space to display.

Also, ever the Tetris Queen, Teresa has somehow managed to unpack all of our books into the Book shelves we currently own. In addition to that, she has accomplished the physically imposable task of somehow managing to get our DVD and VHS videos into book shelves as well. No more boxes of stuff to dig through when we need to find a book or movie. Thanks to her hard work it feels like we actually live in a house, not in rooms full of boxes.

Tim has been working hard at finding a job. While his old job has graciously kept him on as a consultant, finding a full time job in the same state is preferable to telecommuting. His job search has lead to some very interesting interviews for positions that were nothing like they were advertised, as well as to a couple of very promising experiences. A placement company called Tek Systems has expressed a lot of interest in Tim and is perusing placing with the IT department at Lowe’s HQ here in North Carolina. Tim is really excited about this possibility, as it could lead to a very promising future with Lowe’s an a location closer to where we live if things go well. In the mean time, he has been assigned to an installation team that is helping Lowe’s move their employees into a brand new building. It’s a small gig, but allows him to show how hard he is willing to work.

Every now and again we get a craving for good Chinese food, The Hat, or Alberto’s, but we are managing. We’ve found a local Chinese place called “Rice Fun”, and have discovered the joy that is “Sonic” (Inn and Out has nothing on them). Once Tim finds a job will start the quest for ‘good’ Mexican food, as well as other forms of local entertainment that do not involve food, or NASCAR.

That’s all for now. Hopefully we will have good news to report as this month goes forward.

We made it!

Hello friends and family, and greetings from North Carolina.welcomenc

Well, we made it. Thanks to all of you who helped us get ready for the move. The trip from California was actually pretty fun, thanks to an amazing sound track (thank god for ipods) and, luckily pretty uneventful. We were both suffering from pretty bad colds, but otherwise, we remained safe and sound. Tim, trooper that he is, drove the U-Haul pretty much the entire time, tim which freed Teresa up to take a lot of pictures to commemorate the trip. Let’s just say that it is no easy feat to take good pictures while driving down the interstate, but she tried her best and we have, not only some good photographic memories, but also some laughable mistakes.

The little house that Teresa’s mom found for us is a great fit. It’s an old house, which means it’s a little quirky (like slanting floors and other oddities), but it’s cute and we both like it. It has a lot of charm, and is a great place for us to land and get settled out here. We are both just so glad to have a house and be out of an apartment. One of the first things we did when we got here was decorate for Christmas, which was a great start on making our little house a home.tree

As many of you know, Tim is continuing to do some contact work with LaserApp, his former employer in California. We are both very grateful for this income as he looks for a job out here. We would appreciate well wishing and prayers that he finds a job quickly so that we can really settle into our new lives out here.

We will be spending Christmas at Teresa’s mom’s house, with her mom, grandma, and her sister’s family. We are looking forward to it, especially because Teresa will be cooking Christmas dinner for her family for the very first time. We are expecting a day of fun, games, and lots of food and good cheer. We hope that all of you have a Very Merry Christmas with you families, and know that we love and miss you all.
